ACS style generally recommends up to 6 columns in a single journal column and up to 13 columns in the double-column spread. If a table has a bigger size, you can rotate 90o in the double-column spread.

In books, ACS style recommends up to 8 columns in the page width. If you have 9-12 columns, a table can set lengthwise on the page. If a table has a bigger size, you can divide a table into two pages.
