If I do is used for something that is most likely to happen.
For example: If I do my best, I'll succeed.
If I go to the game, I will buy a hot dog. 

If I did is used for things that are just being imagined.
For example: If I saw him, I would've said hello.
If I did my homework, I would not have gotten a zero on that assignment.
