Can is constructed following the format: can + subject + base form of the verb. Could is constructed following the format: could + subject + base form of the verb. Can and could are used 1) for questing things, for example: Can you get me a glass of water? Could you pass the salt, please? 2) for asking people to do something, like: Can you show me the way? Could you close the door, please? 3) to offer something, such as: Can I get you anything, ma'am? Would you like anything, ma'am?

Would you is constructed following the format: would you + subject + base form of the verb. It is used for inviting, for example: Would you like to come over and have lunch with us?
