To cite a published dissertation, you need to include the retrieved database information. To cite an unpublished dissertation, you need to point out that the dissertation has not been unpublished and the location where the dissertation was finished.

For example,

Lastname, F. N. (Year). Title of dissertation (Doctoral dissertation). Retrieved from Name of database. (Accession or Order Number)

Lastname, F. N. (Year). Title of dissertation (Unpublished doctoral dissertation). Name of Institution, Location.
