Although abbreviations are sometimes useful for long, technical terms in scientific writing, abbreviations are used sparingly for maximizing clarity.
Overuse. Using abbreviations may save space, however, it can sacrifice the time of understanding the meaning.
Underuse. A standard abbreviation for a long, familiar term can ease the readers' task.
